What you will learn

 

Upgrade your knowledge and skills to better understand and support clients living with addiction.  You will put knowledge into practice with industry-relevant learning activities, enabling you to hone your skills in preparation for the workforce.

Upon completion of this program, you will be able to:

  • Apply trauma informed practice in the addictions counselling context 

  • Consider the impacts of historic and systemic oppression on individuals  

  • Navigate various models of addiction care to support unique client needs 

  • Apply appropriate counselling techniques when working with people with addictions 

  • Practice self awareness to support ethical conduct and self-care in the helping relationship

 

What to expect

 

Courses are delivered in a blended format, with a combination of asynchronous and synchronous learning.  Instructional and learning activities include, but are not limited to, interactive lectures, group discussion and activities, demonstrations, guest speakers, readings, videos, and clinical simulations.
