What are micro-credentials?

Unlike our broader career programs, VCC’s micro-credentials can generally be completed in less than 100 hours, and students come away with the skills and knowledge that today’s employers need. VCC has two types of micro-credentials:

Award of Achievement

  • Reflects successful completion of a short, focused program of study (credit or non-credit)
  • Competency or skills-based learning, featuring an assessment to verify completion of learning outcomes
  • Physical document that can be listed on CVs or LinkedIn profiles as a professional development certification
  • Typically takes between 20-100 hours to complete

Digital Badge

VCC micro-credential digital badge

  • Reflects successful completion of a specialized course (credit or non-credit)
  • Competency or skills-based learning, featuring an assessment to verify completion of learning outcomes
  • Digital asset issued that contains secure metadata, designed to be shared on CVs, LinkedIn profiles, or as a URL
  • Typically takes 20-50 hours to complete
