Course Description

Explore the dynamics of equity, diversity and inclusion within the construction trades sector. Recognize the value of varied backgrounds and perspectives that team members bring to the job site, and learn to identify and mitigate biases that affect team performance. Through self-reflection, you will dig deeper into understanding your own behaviours and attitudes, and your role in fostering an inclusive environment. By examining real-word examples and equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) initiatives, you will equip yourself with the tools to lead by example and create a culture of belonging and allyship.

1. This course is delivered in a blended format. It is 10 weeks and 30 hours in total. Each week includes a Scheduled class (1 hour) and a Flexible (Self-Paced) session (2 hours).

2. Online with Scheduled Classes: Each week has a scheduled class for 1 hour on a set date and time. This scheduled (synchronous) class is delivered Online via Zoom, and it is instructor-led. The first scheduled class is Tuesday, February 25 2025. Class times are Tuesdays from 6 – 7 p.m.

3. Flexible (Self-Paced): Each week also has a self-paced session which is 2 hours, not including homework. Learners complete this on their own time within that week; before the scheduled class. The self-paced (asynchronous) content is delivered by the online learning management system Moodle. The self-paced content is available starting Monday, February 17, 2025.

4. It is crucial to complete each self-paced module before the corresponding scheduled class to fully benefit from the live discussions and activities.
