Course Description

This course will introduce students to anatomy and techniques for drawing hands and portraits. By studying the underlying bones of the hand, as well its specific shapes and proportions, students will be able to draw and design clear and believable looking hands in a variety of poses. A creative hand drawing assignment will allow the student to apply these techniques to stylized hand designs. Through observation and study of the human skull, students will become familiar with the dominant, shape-creating structure of the human head. Exercises in head tilting, portrait proportions and feature anatomy will help the students to draw their portraits with strong believability and likeness. Lastly, an exercise in caricature drawing will allow the student to experiment with exaggeration and design of the human head.
