Course Description

This course introduces students to basic drawing fundamentals that will help them to observe, analyze and draw the human figure. Students will first explore basic linear perspective tools, developing their ability to create 3 dimensional space and depth on a 2D surface. The artists will also study and sketch the basic 3D form vocabulary: the box, the cylinder, and the sphere. This will help the students to break down complex subjects, as well as design and draw more effectively in perspective. Observation skills such as visual relationships, positive and negative space, and proportions will be demonstrated, to assist the students in creating drawings with strong likeness of the subjects. Students will be making a drawing portfolio of quick gesture studies, as well as long poses, to develop their understanding of weight, balance, and body mechanics, to improve the believability of their animations and designs.
