The Paralegal Program is a recognized paralegal program of the BC Paralegal Association (BCPA).

What you will learn

 
  • Explain overall real estate transaction procedures from initial agreement through to completion and registration.
  • Explain principles and concepts of property law and conveyancing practice in residential and commercial contexts.
  • Draft real estate documentation and complete conveyancing procedures for residential and commercial property transactions.
  • Conduct legal research including fact gathering and issue identification specific to property law matters.
  • Locate and reference case law and legislative materials relevant to real estate and property law.
  • Apply appropriate conveyancing procedures in law office and registry system settings.
  • Demonstrate proficient use of specialized legal terminology in real estate and property law contexts.
  • Perform paralegal-level real estate work in a law office or other legal setting.
  • Adhere to principles of legal ethics in real estate practice environments.
  • Practice analytical, organizational, critical thinking, and communication skills in property law settings.
 

What to expect

 

This part-time program may be delivered face-to-face, fully online, or in a blended format. Instructional strategies include lecture, group discussion and online forums, assigned readings, case studies, practical document preparation activities, and review summaries. Students are expected to engage in applied learning through exercises that simulate real-world paralegal work in a real estate conveyancing setting specific to British Columbia.

 

Admission requirements

 
  • Completion of VCC’s Paralegal Certificate or Paralegal Diploma, or equivalent
