In the first week, of Camp VCC we partnered with the Fashion department to offer A Mixed Bag, where campers explored surface design, patchwork, and sewing, ultimately combining their creations into a one-of-a-kind tote bag to take home. In the second week, we partnered with the Electronics department to present Circuit Masters, where campers learned the basics of circuitry and soldering by building a weather station and designing a line-following car—sparking plenty of excitement as they watched their projects come to life.
Families responded enthusiastically: “This was my child’s favourite camp of all time!” and “She felt really grown up in the class.” Parents also praised the care of staff, communication from VCC, and the quality of the campers’ projects.
In addition to our campers’ experiences, we welcomed four youth volunteers (ages 16+) who played an important role in Camp VCC. They connected with campers, offering encouragement and support that inspired them to try new activities. Our volunteers also gained valuable skills, contributed creatively, and received reference letters in recognition of their contributions and growth.
The success of this pilot has sparked exciting conversations about what’s next. We’re exploring Spring Break and Pro-D Day camps in 2026, developing digital badges for youth volunteers, and considering new themes and age ranges for future camps.
