Hands On Instrument Education in the Medical Device Reprocessing Technician program

The Medical Device Reprocessing Technician (MDRT) program is divided into two components: theory and clinical. Both components are taken simultaneously. The theory component is delivered through classroom instruction, group discussions, case-studies, and simulations.

At the end of September, VCC program coordinator Rebeccah Bennett visited the MDRT theory class to see the hands-on practice students receive during their instrument education class. During the session they get a chance to practice handling the various instruments and wrapping patient care equipment and instruments. This increases their confidence prior to starting the MDRT clinical.

It is during the clinical practicum, which takes place in hospital MDR Departments, that students apply their theoretical knowledge.
