When I began the Network Technology Administration and Security (NTAS) program in the Winter term, I knew it would be challenging to secure a position in the IT industry while balancing my studies. However, I was determined to gain Canadian experience and make the most of my time at VCC. Before Term 2 started, I was fortunate to land a part-time job as an IT Specialist. This was a pivotal moment, but it also came at a time of great personal responsibility—my daughter was born around the same time. Balancing coursework, picking up my son from school, caring for a newborn, and excelling at work required immense effort, but I’m proud to say it was all worth it.
The NTAS program was an exceptional experience. Each term was thoughtfully structured, providing practical, job-based learning instead of traditional classroom methods. I also want to extend my appreciation to NTAS Program Assistant, Claudia. Even before I came to Canada, her support and responsiveness stood out. With the leadership of Program Coordinator, Shu-Ann, NTAS was very impactful. It was truly inspiring to learn from highly experienced and well-decorated professionals in the IT industry. Instructors like Wes, Hamid, Ali, John, Tony, Alireza, Faith, Rouzbeh, and Jason brought real-world expertise and a hands-on approach that prepared me to meet industry demands with confidence.
As I progressed through the program, I stayed with the same part-time job, but when I inquired about transitioning to full-time, it was not an option due to company constraints. I then started looking for opportunities elsewhere and received two interview offers—one for an IT Application Specialist role and another for a Senior IT Field Technician position.
At this point, I sought guidance from Jason, who took the time to help me assess my strengths and career aspirations. His insights gave me the clarity to pursue the Field Technician role, which aligned perfectly with my skills and long-term goals. During the technical interview, I applied the structured approach to answering questions that Jason had helped me refine. The feedback I received was overwhelming—the interviewers noted that my responses not only met their expectations but exceeded them. I’m thrilled to share that I secured the position and will be starting soon.
Looking back, I realize how impactful the NTAS program has been in shaping my career. The course design, the hands-on learning, and the mentorship from incredible instructors made the transition from studying to working seamless.
I’m truly grateful for the opportunities and guidance provided throughout this journey. Thank you for fostering such a supportive and impactful learning environment.
