For over 20 years VCC has offered students the skills to be an effective leader, now the Applied Leadership and Business program has been renewed.
“Program Renewal is a pillar of Vancouver Community College's quality assurance processes, and an opportunity to ensure that program structure and curriculum is up-to-date and meeting the needs of the sector that it represents,” explains Associate Dean of Continuing Studies, Claire Sauvé. “For the Applied Business and Leadership program this meant consulting with leaders from a variety of business sectors, from trades to event planning to marketing, and e-commerce. So, whether your background is trades and technology, education, healthcare, or arts and design, we've distilled the skills, knowledge and attributes that you need to be a leader in your field. “
The new 18-credit program offers a great degree of flexibility and accessibility for busy professionals, by offering the courses online, through a mix of synchronous and asynchronous learning activities. Several classes will be offered each term so students can customize their studies to fit their schedules. And after completing the six required courses that cover topics such as ethics, accounting, and human resources, there is a wide range of possible elective courses to choose from to complete the certificate.
Depending on your career path, you may want to sample a variety of topics such as Operations for Small Business, Maintaining Ecommerce, or Reflective Leadership. Or maybe you want your electives to culminate in an Award of Achievements in Business Communication and Project Management, Ecommerce, Coaching, Leadership Skills, or Small Business Administration.
“The Applied Leadership and Business Management Certificate is built around stackable VCC micro-credential Awards of Achievement. This allows students to discover where they excel and what they enjoy, and then focus on those skills,” says Sauvé.
Leadership in this day-in-age can be highly complex, and the VCC Applied Leadership and Business Management program addresses that complexity with manageable building blocks, so every student can be the leader their workplace needs.
