Introducing VCC’s New Addictions Counselling Skills Micro-Credential

The Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions’ report, “Pathway to Hope,” underscores the critical need for “access to evidence-based addiction care” in British Columbia. In response, VCC is proud to offer a new micro-credential in Addictions Counselling Skills to address the growing demand for specialized training amid the reality of the opioid crisis.

The program is evidence-informed and developed in collaboration with industry experts, including those with lived experience. Designed for individuals with prior experience and/or training in the social services (or related fields) who are seeking to enhance their skills and knowledge in supporting people living with addictions. By focusing on trauma-informed practices and the bio-psycho-socio-and political contexts of models of addictions treatment, graduates will be well-prepared to support individuals to recognize their own resilience on their path to recovery.

The Addictions Counselling Skills micro-credential consists of three modules: Foundations of Trauma and Resiliency Informed Practice, Care Models and Modalities for Addiction Treatment, and Addictions Counselling Skills. The program spans 100 hours and will be delivered in a blended format, combining self-paced and scheduled online classes.
